Program Overview

KKCDO’s Child Protection program focuses on safeguarding children in vulnerable, conflict-affected, and impoverished communities across Afghanistan. We work to prevent child abuse, exploitation, neglect, and harmful traditional practices through both preventive and responsive approaches.

Our efforts include building awareness around children’s rights, training community child protection committees, and ensuring access to psychosocial support, education, and legal assistance. Special attention is given to orphans, child laborers, children with disabilities, and those exposed to early marriage or family separation.

What We Do in This Program

KKCDO prioritizes the protection of children most at risk — including orphans, street-working children, and those displaced by conflict. Through family reunification, education access, and wrap-around support, we help restore safety and hope in young lives

Mental Health and Psychosocial Support

Our trained staff and local facilitators provide psychosocial support to children affected by trauma, displacement, or abuse. We ensure early intervention and long-term recovery, creating referral networks with local health and legal services

Community Child Protection Groups

KKCDO forms and mentors community-based child protection groups that identify risks, prevent harm, and respond to children’s needs at the local level.

Counseling and Family Reunification

We support displaced and separated children with counseling and work to safely reunite them with family or caregivers through trained caseworkers.

Community-Driven Protection Networks

KKCDO believes that child protection is most effective when it begins at the community level. The organization mobilizes and mentors Community-Based Child Protection Committees (CBCPCs) that identify risks, monitor vulnerable cases, and intervene through locally appropriate solutions. These committees are trained in recognizing abuse, preventing early marriage, and promoting inclusive education for at-risk children. KKCDO’s approach ensures that child safety becomes a shared community responsibility, not just a service provision
